Social media trends worth acting on this year

Social media trend lists are usually written for agencies, not for the business owner who has to publish on Monday morning. So this one is written the other way round: what is genuinely changing in how buyers behave, and what you should do about it with a small team and a normal budget.
We manage social accounts for brands in Canada, India and further afield, so the notes below come from what actually moves saves, replies and enquiries rather than what looks good in a keynote.
Short video is now the default, not the experiment
Reels, Shorts and TikTok clips are how most people meet a brand for the first time. You do not need a studio for this. A phone, natural light and a clear first line will outperform a polished video that takes three weeks to approve.
Build a repeatable format instead of chasing ideas. One customer question answered in forty seconds, one behind the scenes clip, one before and after. Three formats you can film in a single session will keep a month of content moving.
Quick tip:
Say the promise in the first two seconds. Most viewers decide whether to keep watching before your logo appears, so save the intro animation for the end.
Creators and small communities beat broadcasting
One trusted creator with a few thousand engaged followers usually produces more enquiries than a large account with a passive audience. Look for people whose comments read like conversations, not applause.
The same shift applies to owned channels. Broadcast channels, WhatsApp groups and close friends lists give you a room full of people who already like you. That is where offers land best, so keep those channels warm with something useful, not just announcements.
AI speeds up production, trust still comes from people
AI tools are excellent for first drafts, captions in a second language, and turning one long video into a week of clips. What they cannot invent is proof. Your own customers, your team and your results are the part nobody can copy.
A good ratio is machine assisted production with human led substance. Use the tools to save hours, then spend those hours filming real work and answering real questions.
Quick tip:
Publish one piece of proof every week: a result, a testimonial, a finished project. Proof is the content type that shortens the distance between a follower and a buyer.
What you can safely ignore
Ignore trending audio that has nothing to do with your business, follower count as a goal, and any new platform that does not already contain your buyers. Ignore posting daily on five channels if it means posting badly on all of them.
Pick two channels, publish with a steady rhythm, and measure saves, shares, profile visits and enquiries. If you want a second opinion on which two channels suit your market, our team is happy to look at it with you on a free call.

People search inside social apps, so write for search
Instagram and TikTok are now used as search engines, especially by younger buyers. That changes how you write captions. Plain words that match how someone would type a query beat clever wordplay, because the app has to understand the post to surface it.
Put the topic in the first line of the caption, add it as on screen text in the video, and use a handful of specific hashtags rather than thirty generic ones. Treat every post as a small page that could be found weeks later.
